Friends of Angelika Mosaic Molly Dedham and Travis Hopson sat down with Austenland director Jerusha Hess and actor J.J. Feild to talk about the filmmaking process, suffocation by doilies, and how freaking wonderful Keri Russell is. (SPOILER WARNING at the 5-minute mark.)
A wickedly funny, irreverent comedy featuring an impeccable cast of archetypal characters, AUSTENLAND is a romantic comedy about a young woman (played by Keri Russell) obsessed with all things Jane Austen. When she decides to spend her life savings on a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-crazed women, Jane’s fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become more real than she ever could have imagined. One of the most highly anticipated films out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, AUSTENLAND is the feature directorial debut from screenwriter Jerusha Hess (NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE).
AUSTENLAND opens this month at the Angelika Film Center:
8/16 – New York, NY
8/23 – Mosaic/Fairfax, VA
8/30 – Plano, TX
