An interview with RETURN writer/director Liza Johnson

February 10, 2012

Didn’t pre-purchase a ticket for tonights sold out screening of RETURN, with director Liza Johnson and actor Michael Shannon in attendance for a Q&A,? You’re in luck! The first time feature writer/director stopped by the Village East earlier to chat with us, touching on the real-life stories of military vets that inspired the film, as well as her experience working with the incredible pool of local talent in NYC (including John Slattery, Paul Sparks (“Boardwalk Empire”), Talia Balsam, and Louisa Krause (MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE)). Check it out below, and be sure to catch RETURN this weekend at the Village East Cinema!

ABOUT RETURN:
Liza Johnson makes her feature debut in this riveting drama, which drew bouquets of praise at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. Linda Cardellini (TV series â??Freaks and Geeksâ?) gives a brilliant, critically acclaimed performance as a soldier returning to Ohio from the Middle East to discover that her husband, friends and hometown have greatly changed. Michael Shannon (BOARDWALK EMPIRE, TAKE SHELTER) is the not-always-helpful husband, while friends John Slattery and Talia Balsam (Mr. and Mrs. Sterling on MAD MEN) offer more substantial support.
