Director Ridley Scott’s follow-up to his 1979 hit ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER is one of the most popular and influential science-fiction films of all time – and it has become an enduring cult classic favorite. Inspired by Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the film depicts a dystopian future in which genetically engineered, dangerous replicants are hunted down by special police operatives. Although the enthralling film was originally a box-office failure, it was nominated for two Academy Awards in 1983, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration and Best Visual Effects.

THE GREAT INVISIBLE

October 27, 2014

In this thought-provoking documentary which impressed audiences and won the Grand Jury Prize at the SXSW Film Festival, Peabody Award winning documentarian Margaret Brown (THE ORDER OF MYTHS) explores the fallout of the explosion of Deepwater Horizon, a state-of-the-art offshore drilling rig operated by BP in the Gulf of Mexico. Interweaving personal stories with insight from industry insiders and news footage of the disaster and its aftermath, Brown creates an intimate and emotional look at the many people still haunted by the explosion long after the story has faded from the front page. Sunday 9/21 @ 7:10PM – Jennifer Grausman, Sam Cullman, and Mark Becker in attendance

About the film:
Oscar nominee Sam Cullman delivers a delicately balanced documentary with ART AND CRAFT, a look at one of the most prolific art forgers in America. After decades of conning the art industry with an impressive body of work in a wide range of styles – most of which was then donated to institutions across the United State – Mark Landis is exposed by a tenacious registrar from Cincinnati. Amid questions of motive, diagnosed schizophrenia, and a chorus of museum professionals clamoring for him to stop, this cat-and-mouse caper emerges an intimate story of obsession and the universal need for community, appreciation, and purpose.

ART & CRAFT is now playing at the Angelika New York.

PAY 2 PLAY: Democracy’s High Stakes follows filmmaker John Ennis’ quest to find a way out from under the Pay 2 Play System, the cycle where Politicians reward their donors with large sums from the public treasury through contracts, tax cuts, and deregulation. PAY 2 PLAY is the layman’s guidebook to taking back our democracy.
