DOCTOR WHO fans swarm the Village East for BBC America Season 6 Premiere

April 14, 2011

Monday night, DOCTOR WHO fans from across the country traveled in throngs to the Angelika New Yorkâ??s sister theatre, the Village East Cinema.  The occasion?  BBC America treated enthusiasts of the cult-classic British sci-fi TV show to a free advance screening of this seasonâ??s two-part premiere followed by a Q&A with the cast.

The Doctor (Matt Smith) and his companions Amy (Karen Gillan), Rory (Arthur Darvill) and River Song (Alex Kingston) were in attendance with the fans to celebrate the first DOCTOR WHO episode filmed in American – and to kick off the first season to be broadcast by BBC America simultaneously with the BBC UK broadcast.

Whovians began lining up the day before, camping out on the hard city streets of Manhattanâ??s East Village for this very exciting event.  We filled three of our largest auditoriums and even added a second show to accommodate the crowds (many in costume!), who were mostly patient and never lacking in enthusiasm. Judging from the cheers we heard inside throughout the screening, the audience was not disappointed!

Check out the below video chronicling the exciting event, and head over to the Village East and BBC America Facebook pages for photos of the cast and fans at the premiere.

If you couldnâ??t make it to the Village East on Monday, donâ??t miss the all-new season of DOCTOR WHO, starting Saturday April 23 at 9/8c only on BBC America.
