alfredhitchcock.jpg

It’s almost time for Halloween, and who better to celebrate the creepiest month of the year with than Mr. Hitchcock himself? And why wait until December to start getting gifts? We think every holiday should come with presents. That’s why we’ve combined a full schedule of what we think are Alfred Hitchcock’s creepiest, scariest most bizarre films with our HITCHCOCKtober Contest.

If you’re a huge Hitchcock fan or you just want to win stuff, here’s your chance. The rules are simple: submit to us by e-mail any kind of Hitchcock-inspired creativity you want. Songs, film shorts, photo essays, poetry, painting and collage are all encouraged. There are no limits on media so give us what youâ??ve got! Rules and prize packages are detailed below. All entries should be submitted to AngelikaSubmissions@gmail.com.

The Game:

Submit any form of Hitchcock-inspired creativity to AngelikaSubmissions@gmail.com by October 29 for a chance to be featured on our new blog www.angelikablog.com and a shot at one of three Angelika prize packages! Get Out Your Short Shorts People

September 19, 2007

QFest is in town (Houston-town)! Their first annual “Show Us Your Shorts Competition Compilation”, featuring 2007’s best queer-themed submissions is just one of the 19 installments that make up this year’s gay-themed festival. Always edgy and relevant, QFest’s lineup includes DAFT PUNK’S ELECTROMA, where the always inventive French electronica duo (think Kanye West’s recent, universally appealing single “Stronger”) try to turn their crazy robotic alter-egos into real flesh and blood. Music fans should also come out for PICK UP THE MIC, an energetic investigation of “homohop” and the tenacious rap-artists keeping the genre alive.

The festival also features an adaptation of the college lit class staple THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY, RAY HILL’S PRISON SHOW, a fascinating documentary from gay-rights activist, ex-prison inmate and Houston native Ray Hill, and a few “After Dark” selections that I cannot write about here except to say don’t bring your kids.

QFest begins tomorrow, September 20 and runs through Monday, September 24. For synopses and a full schedule, visit QFest’s official site.

Hola folks. (amigos…)

Who’s @ the Angelika?

September 6, 2007

tevy.jpg

Whatâ??s your name?
Tevy Bradley

What was your favorite movie of the summer?
HARRY POTTER or THE SIMPSONâ??S MOVIE

What are you seeing at the Angelika tonight?
I was going to see 2 DAYS IN PARIS. I like everything about Europe.

Really? Should we convert to the metric system?
Oh no! Is that on the books? Is that being discussed? No, never. Too much effort.

What do you think of people who make out at the movies?
Depends on the movie. As long as I cant hear it or see it Iâ??m fine.

Would you make out at the movie?
Sure! Wellâ?¦ok. I go to see the movie. If I havenâ??t seen the movie before, Iâ??m going to be watching the movie, period. If I have seen the movie before, I donâ??t normally do that, but I wouldnâ??t be opposed.

Are you a huge movie buff?
Huge. I love the Angelika, seriously though.

What is the most universally useful object in existence?
A book. What do I always have with meâ?¦.a book and an ipod. But those both only do one thingâ?¦but you could kill someone with or bench press the Harry Potter series.

Where were you on Fleet Week?
When was that?

May.
Probably out. I love fleet week though because I have a weakness for men in uniforms. Not that anythingâ??s ever come of itâ?¦.sigh.

Based on your current NYC rent or mortgage, how much property do you think you could afford in Oklahoma?
Oh! Uhâ?¦like I think I could buy a house. Iâ??m from Nashville and I just went home and my friend owns a condo for basically what I pay in rent. Itâ??s a two story condo. Depressing, really. But I wouldnâ??t trade living in the city.

Play catch-up @ the Angelika Dallas & Plano

August 31, 2007

Summer may be almost in the bag, but you can still catch up on all of those great movies you missed while you were at the beach.

CNN.com’s Tom Charity shares a few of his picks here, namely ONCE, the summer’s surprising indie jewel and ROCKET SCIENCE, the quirky adolescent comedy from SPELLBOUND director Jeffrey Blitz.

For those of you who didn’t make it to theater over the past three months, you can drown your post-summer sorrow in both of these fantastic films this weekend at the Angelika Dallas & Plano.
